The Original $10 Challenge
Five ways to maximize your food dollars
Five ways to combat spoilage
Buy whole foods instead of processed foods
Shop on the perimeter of the store
Make a list and stick to it
Write down a budget
Plan out your meals
Only buy what you will use
Buy foods that are slightly underripe so they do not spoil right away.
Portion out foods and freeze the portion you do not need right away
Use air-tight containers to keep food fresh longer
Meal prep only for a few days so the food doesn’t go bad throughout the week
Two ways to compare food choices besides using weight
You can compare how much time it will take to prepare different food options
You can also compare the cost of different food options
My critique of the $10 challenge
It was nice to see Kayden go for the produce and demonstrate how much more food he was able to buy than Griffin, but he did not explain HOW he was going to prepare, cook, or eat the food. I wish he gave ideas for what he could do with all the produce he bought.
